I’m certain we speak for everybody when we heave a giant sigh as we change the calendars to 2021! In the New Year, we are updating Thurston County Food Bank’s visit structure.
As you may be aware, when COVID first struck, we changed not only our distribution model, but visit structure. We changed the visits from set counts and defined visits – to “unlimited” visits in the pre-bagged/boxed model. This was done in response to COVID – and all that the pandemic brought.
Beginning January 4, 2021, the visit structure will change to a maximum visit of 1 VISIT PER WEEK – PER HOUSEHOLD.
We will continue to operate distributing pre-bagged/boxed foods using our drive-up distribution models(as well as walk-up at our Client Service Center for those without vehicles, on foot or taking busses). It should be also noted, Thurston County Food Bank continues to need volunteers at all locations as we enter 2021. Through everything our Community has been through this past year, we are grateful for the phenomenal people we have around us – supporting each other through these difficult times.

Thurston County Food Bank will be closed Thursday and Friday (11/26, 11/27) this week to reflect and rest.
This has been quite a year!
And, through it all, we have so much to be thankful for. To begin with, through all the trials of 2020, we have witnessed firsthand the generosity and kindness of our community coming together to support and care for one another.
What an astounding place this is!!
We hope you and your loved ones are able to enjoy the next several days as you reflect on those around you and all the things you are thankful for.

Food will be distributed Monday (11/23) and Wednesday (11/25) from the Downtown Olympia location.
Distribution will begin just around 10am and finish when the last in line at 3pm is served.
We would like to share a few important details for you to keep in mind as you plan to pick up food next week at our Downtown Olympia Location:

For Community Members in Vehicles:
This is a very popular event. We expect a large turn-out, especially with the latest COVID restrictions on Thanksgiving gathering sizes. Please be prepared to wait in line…
Please make sure your vehicle has gas in it!
There are no public restrooms at the Food Bank, please plan accordingly.
Please wait in you vehicle. Volunteers will collect your information from outside, and load your vehicle for you.
Please be patient with our volunteers … they are all community members (just like you) giving their time, and are joyfully taking on the cold rain, to help their community.
Please bring a photo ID for yourself. If you are picking up for any other person, please have their ID with a note giving permission to pick up for them — or a snapshot/text/email of their ID from them works equally well.
We will close the line at 3pm.

Please stay vigilant about 6ft. safe distancing.

We have so much to be thankful for! We’ve been receiving many questions regarding Thanksgiving food distribution as well as volunteering.
Here are more details for you:
We will be distributing pre-built holiday food boxes and a meat option* — IN ADDITION to our regular distribution of pre-build boxes/bags — on Monday (11/23) and Wednesday (11/25) at our Downtown, CSC, location (220 Thurston Ave. NE, 98516).
This will be drive-up as well as walk-up distribution.
We will be distributing food from 11am – 3pm (last in line) on those two days from the Downtown location.
We, in partnership with St. Martin’s University, will be distributing the same pre-built boxes/bags and meat options* on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (11/24). |
Distribution will take place in front of the Grand Staircase at St. Martin’s in Lacey (5000 Abbey Way SE, Lacey 98503).
This will be drive-up distribution.
Food will be distributed from 10am – 1pm (last in line) on that Tuesday at St. Martin’s. * Limit ONE (1) Holiday Box and Turkey (or Chicken) per Household(depending on size) while supplies last
In light of COVID, we will not be hosting the giant community Box-Build – we have historically enjoyed the Saturday before Thanksgiving. We have limited spaces for small groups to help as distribution volunteers the week of Thanksgiving. There are also limited opportunities at our warehouse for individuals and groups to help.
