Long Time Director to Leave Thurston County Food Bank

After 18 years leading the Thurston County Food Bank (TCFB), Executive Director Robert Coit is leaving to begin new adventures.

TCFB President Bruce Wollstein noted: “Robert has done a tremendous job of growing the organization from a basic food pantry model to a multicounty resource distribution network that serves families, children and individuals throughout the greater Thurston, Mason and Lewis County areas. I can’t overstate what a great job Robert has done in securing funding, staffing and resources to help residents meet their basic needs for food and much more.” Bruce, speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, thanked Robert for his 18 years of dedicated service to the TCFB and the citizens of the region.

IN-PERSON SHOPPING RETURNS DOWNTOWN APRIL 25th!

On Monday, April 25th, the downtown branch of the Food Bank (“Olympia’s Food Pantry”) will be returning to our in-person shopping model!

• Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• 220 Thurston Ave. NE, Olympia
• Limited free parking in designated locations will be available!
• We will continue to offer drive-through service at our pop-up food banks located in Tumwater.

Give local 2021 a Huge Success!

Thank you so much for supporting TCFB through Give Local 2021. Your generous donations totaled an astounding $40,460 — more than doubling our goal!! Your continued support helps sustain our work going forward — with the mission for nearly 50 years of ending hunger in our community. Thank you for fostering hope and resilience by caring for our community — we truly are a Community Committed!

We value and appreciate the vision and support of the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound for hosting Give Local 2021. Together, our community raised $794,777 to sustain and grow the work of local nonprofits!

Thanksgiving Food Box Distribution – St. MArtin’s University

Tuesday, 11/24, the Thurston County Food Bank in partnership with St. Martin’s University will be distributing Thanksgiving Boxes. This will be drive-up with minimal contact.

Please follow the directions below, stay in your vehicle, and friendly volunteers will load the food for you!

Distribution will begin at 10am and finish either with
the last in line at 1pm — or — while supplies last.

We are very excited to be able to continue this long-standing service to our community!!

Food will be distributed Monday (11/23) and Wednesday (11/25) from the Downtown Olympia location.

Distribution will begin just around 10am and finish when the last in line at 3pm is served.

We would like to share a few important details for you to keep in mind as you plan to pick up food next week at our Downtown Olympia Location:

For Community Members in Vehicles:

  • This is a very popular event. We expect a large turn-out, especially with the latest COVID restrictions on Thanksgiving gathering sizes. Please be prepared to wait in line…
  • Please make sure your vehicle has gas in it! 🚗
  • There are no public restrooms at the Food Bank, please plan accordingly.
  • Please wait in you vehicle. Volunteers will collect your information from outside, and load your vehicle for you.
  • Please be patient with our volunteers … they are all community members (just like you) giving their time, and are joyfully taking on the cold rain, to help their community. 💕
  • Please bring a photo ID for yourself. If you are picking up for any other person, please have their ID with a note giving permission to pick up for them — or a snapshot/text/email of their ID from them works equally well.
  • We will close the line at 3pm.
    • All Community Members in line at that time will be served.

For Community Members on Foot:

  • If you are on foot, please line up along Thurston Ave…
  • Wear face coverings
  • Please stay vigilant about 6ft. safe distancing.
  • Please be dressed for Washington weather (rain, sun, wind, etc)
  • There are no public restrooms at the Food Bank -Please plan accordingly.
  • Please be patient with our volunteers … they are all community members (just like you) giving their time, and are joyfully taking on the cold rain, to help their community
